How about doing that with the racist Democrat Party?
The Democratic Party historically is the party of slavery. The Democratic Party is the party of Jim Crow laws. The Democratic Party fought civil rights for a century.
And so by rights — or at least by the standards established by the Cultural Revolutionaries of today’s American left — we should ban the Democratic Party.
Not only get rid of it in the present, but strike its very name from the history books, and topple all Democratic statues of leaders who benefited, prospered and became wealthy by cleaving to the party. And shame Democrats until they confess the truth of it.
The Democratic Party’s military arm in the South was the KKK. The Democratic Party opposed the 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution, making the former slaves citizens of the United States and giving them the vote.
If the new Cultural Revolution was serious, wouldn’t it also demand that the Democratic Party be put in a museum somewhere, away from decent people, along with those Confederate statues?
We could put Democrats in exhibits, behind glass, watching white political bosses chomp cigars and pass out goodies for votes, as minorities were relegated, as they are today, to failing schools and lost educational opportunity and neighborhoods that have become killing fields for the young and old.
And in great museums, the Democrats could be studied, safely, without endangering the sensibilities of the children.
We might even peer down on an animatronic Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd, once a leader of the KKK. And with him, prominent animatronic Democrats who, just a few short years ago, said wonderful, moving things about Byrd after his funeral.
I remember a quarter of a century ago, in more hopeful times, after the fall of the Soviet Union, having a conversation with a friend about how we might want to preserve socialism in a museum somewhere, so that people wouldn’t forget. Unfortunately, it’s not necessary, because bad ideas never die.
My position on the monuments is that a) it’s none of the federal government’s business and b) the best way to deal with them is to leave them in place, but put beside them a plaque explaining who put them up, and when, and why. Including the fact that they were all, to a man and woman, Democrats.
[Update a few minutes later]
Black Americans, the organized Left’s expendable shock troops. The real racism has always lied on the collectist Left.
When we toured Normandy, we were astonished to find a memorial cemetery for dead Nazi soldiers just up the road from the famous American cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer. Meticulously kept up by the donations of private individuals. We came there the day after the D-day celebrations, and found wreaths of flowers adorning the central monument, one of which was bestowed by the US ambassador!
I’ve suggested that before and its good someone actually wrote up an oped about it. Where does the taking down of symbols of historical sins end after all?
It doesn’t end. This isn’t about the Confederacy and slavery. It is about Year Zero and expunging the USA, our form of government, society, culture, and economic system from history.
Confederate statues don’t get too much sympathy. To the extent that most people want to leave them up, it is to recognize history is history and to learn from the past. But we all know it isn’t just Confederate statues they are going after. Its all of them, except for the ones of Lenin and other leftist luminaries.
The Democrats are riding a wild tiger. They might soon find their party is expunged and replaced by something created by the Sanders black shirt wing.
It is not an anomaly. Cemeteries for the Nazi dead litter Europe. They’re even in Russia, of all places!
In the case of Russia, the locals probably want to check, periodically, to see that the Nazis are still in the ground.
I wonder if any body has ever made the movie, “Night of the living Nazis?”
Yeah, it is called Dead Snow. It’s kind of campy (think SyFy channel original movies), but entertaining. If you’re into video games, Call of Duty has a Nazi Zombies expansion.
Here is a memorial to German general Erwin Rommel, which is located in Herrlingen, FRG.
These are not Confederate ersatz Nazis. These are the real deal. Why are their dead so honored?
Because dead men are not threats. Because nursing hatred and grudges for events long gone does not benefit the living. And, because the lessons of history are too important to be erased. That’s why.
I think it’s good for Germany (and the rest of the world) to have a reminder of what the Nazi regime cost the nation, to hopefully never repeat the same mistake. But they also need to remember what the Nazis stood for and why it was evil, and not just some name associated with a nebulous Great Evil.
Given that Rommel was part of the Valkyrie plot to kill Hitler, I’m inclined to think Rommel’s monument is deserved.
I had to post the above in pieces, because the filter flagged so many links as spam. Meant to be read all as one (thanks for breaking it up, Wodun! 😉
Lol, at your service.
Good catch, Bart.
DNA tests have confirmed that I am descended from Saul and Phyllis Stein. As such, I take great offense at the virtual worship given to the slayer of my great great great great….great great grandfather Goliath (GoliGramps! to all of us kids). I therefore demand that the statue of David (ptui ptui) be taken down from it’s obscene place of display at Galleria dell’Accademia.
Not being an artistic Philistine, I will give it a good home, here in Manassas Virginia…
As a person with three to four percent Neanderthal DNA, I strongly object to any monument to genocidal homo sapiens.
The real conundrum is how do we give America back to the original settling tribe since every last one of them was wiped out by other tribes long before the evil US got here?
Thou shall make no graven images unless approved by the year zero state.
I can’t wait to say, The Year is One! as in Rosemary’s Baby.
Including the fact that they were all, to a man and woman, Democrats.
Dinesh D’Souza adds this little tidbit… At a time when America had 4 million slaves, not a single one was owned by a republican. When someone pointed out that U.S.Grant inherited one slave, Dinesh pointed out that Grant was a democrat at the time.
I’m waiting for the mob to start demanding the removal of Union statues. Fighting to end slavery doesn’t absolve them of having been, up until then, citizens in a nation that tolerated slavery.
In New Orleans someone defaced a statue of Joan of Arc. I think she fought at Mannasas.
