Kurt Schlichter says to stop caring about them:
I didn’t vote for Donald Trump to be a role model or a moral paragon. I voted for him to not be Hillary Clinton, and to incrementally move towards actual conservatism. Like everyone else who voted for him, I knew he wasn’t a doctrinaire conservative. But he believed in some conservative things, and that was better than someone who believed in no conservative things, and who wanted to stamp her sensible shoe into our faces forever.
Was he my first choice? No. Was he my second? No. But was there any other choice when it came down to him or Felonia von Pantsuit?
No. Which is something a lot of the cogs in the machine that is Conservative, Inc., still don’t choose to acknowledge.
That’s pretty much my take, too.
His tweets serve a practical purpose. While media heads explode two things are happening. He exposes their hypocrisy and he gets other things done without their interference.
Exactly! It’s not “4D Chess” or anything like that, it’s “fizzbin” and he’s winning!
Except on Tuesdays after dark when it’s a kronk.
Trump has those people exactly where he wants them. They’ve never dealt with anybody like him before and it shows. They are just so butthurt that he won’t be still and let them spin their lies. It’s awesome! MAGA!
“That’s pretty much my take, too.”
Me too. Frankly, I’m mildly surprised about how well Trump has actually done. And if I ever get perturbed about something he’s said I just think to myself:
You think this is bad? Just think how awful it would be under President Felonia.
I really wish Schlichter would stop sugar-coating his opinions, and let us know how he really feels.
Stop caring about the tweets was the same advice given during the campaign about the endless coverage of Trump. The media couldn’t help themselves from running endless negative stories, which only proved the things Trump said about them. Same thing now.
Trump certainly has an ego but the media does too and until they can get over themselves and report in good faith, they will only make Trump stronger. Flip side is that honestly covering Trump means talking about the things he is doing well, which also makes him stronger. Catch 22!
OK Wodun I bite what exactly has he done well.
Other than Gorsuch (Which in reality remains to be seen people, for example John Roberts hasn’t lived up to billings)
And he happened to be in charge at a time when the Stock market is doing well and “Phoney” unemployment numbers are low. Both is like crediting Bill Clinton with them at the start of his presidency.
Engineer. Quit reading the lamestream media and get out from under your rock. The list is long, to the point that Trump has already done more for the USA than all the rest since Reagan.
Wodun we will have to wait and see on the military it always precarious mix of letting the generals do what needs to be done and micromanaging keeping them on the leash. Mattis is one of his good appointments, but what about him undercutting Mattis and Tillerson with the whole Qatar squawk.
The EO on Regulations is kinda red meat for the base. It not necessarily be seen as doing well if covered by media which I swear been brought up as a foot note. And personally don’t like this being EO , if signing EO is doing Well Obama is master of the Universe.
Micheal dunno Appellate/circuit/appeal judges appointments have never been front page news. Lower courts are Important but they not going to be what the media covers if there not covering there outrage de jour. There never was a look at Obama lower court appointees short of some various Social Justice or Diversity advocates praising his appointments
Gregg alot of those had been covered by the media very briefly before they disappeared with the newest tweet, or Russian news. And to the public those being covered May or may not be viewed as “Well” or good more in the eye of the beholder .
Dunno Eric by Trump standards Clinton did alot too.
Kicked the Welfare mothers off the rolls.
Locked up the super predators and cleaned up the cities with all those super predators incarcerated.
Balanced the Budget
Putting off the disaster of Liberal Health care reform for 16 years with the brilliant move of putting Hillary on the case as a hill for her to die on while he was busy hiring interns with P’s that he liked to grab and hold his cigars.
Clinton did do some good things because he had to respond to both the public and political opponents. That’s how things are supposed to work. Not acknowledging the good things Trump has been getting done DAILY is just a sign of bias.
Lower court appointments are tremendously important regardless of any news blackout. Regulations are being cut and Obama’s treasonous policies are being rolled back in the daily operations of government entities that are finally just enforcing laws the democrats have gutted for 8 years because they are too cowardly to get on record with a vote (which says nothing regarding repub cowards.)
Trumps success is mostly not happening in the dysfunctional congress, but organizationally throughout govt. Even with a swamp that really needs more draining. Even that has been a partial success (with much more required.)
Sessions has been a disappointment, but not completely.
Trump needs more people that will damn the torpedoes, take the arrows and fight like a girl (mama grizzly.)
Sessions
Tillerson
Travel bans (taking it to the Supreme Court and, so far, winning)
rescinding EPA rules
…those are just off the top of my head during a commercial break on tv
As Jonathan Adler — of Case Western University school of law — points out (writing in UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh’s highly regarded, libertarian-leaning legal blog “The Volokh Conspiracy,” now at the Washington Post), Trump continues to nominate very high quality candidates (“sterling judicial nominations” as Adler puts it) for federal judicial positions.
Such a policy reliably carried out will distinguish Trump among historic presidents.
Others have some good examples. Another is putting the military in control of the wars rather than micromanage from DC and create a shadow chain of command to bypass the Secretary of Defense and the generals in charge of the theatres.
Obama had three Secretaries of Defense write scathing books about his military leadership. The media totally ignored them and the outcomes of Obama’s strategies. Trump put an end to leading from behind.
Another is his rule on regulations for getting rid of regulations if you want to add new ones.
There is a lot of other stuff that just isn’t reported by the DNC media. They will always claim Trump made them cover something else and on days when Trump didn’t do anything, the DNC media just makes something up.
Catch 22!
Or said differently, Trump is the destructor.
Or air force [military] created the catch 22.
The Media create the destructor.
They actually the really, really , really, wanted the destructor.
And here he is.
The destructor doesn’t destroy the world, the distructor
destroys their world.
It’s only fair, the media has been destroying everything.
I cannot yet bring myself to believe that Trump is a communications genius and is playing 8D chess with the media and living inside their heads and that this is all part of The Plan.
It would be nice if it were true, but I don’t believe it.
Who cares if he’s really doing it on purpose or not? He’s winning the battles every day.
I read here in this blog – and other blogs…and even in this thread, that Trump is a genius with his tweets as he is out maneuvering the Dems.
I don’t buy that. And I’m not sure it’s healthy to assume this is well thought out 10D chess.
I voted for him for the same reason Schlicter and others did.
But I want to know (as best as can be made out) what is real and what is fantasy.
It’s not a question of genius, it’s a question of honesty. Trump is the guy in the crowd saying, “I don’t see the emperor’s clothes” when all the elite are looking down their nose saying, “it takes a true intellectual to see these wondrous robes.”
Honesty has a genius all its own.
Honesty is good, Ken.
But most savvy married men know that certain questions (like about clothes and rump size), when answered honestly, can cause a world of hurt.
There are times to keep one’s mouth shut.
And I never said he should stop tweeting. All I’m saying that there is as yet no evidence that his tweets are the product of careful thought, deep strategy and genius communication.
There are times to keep one’s mouth shut.
True, however the reason is external to the speaker. A child that speaks plainly is considered adorable (yes, I know I just fed ya a straight line.)
no evidence that his tweets are the product of careful thought, deep strategy and genius communication.
That’s my point as well. You simply don’t need genius machinations if you simply stick with the truth.
All I’m saying that there is as yet no evidence that his tweets are the product of careful thought, deep strategy and genius communication.
Evidence is there, whether or not you agree with it is a different story.
Wodun:
“Evidence is there, whether or not you agree with it is a different story.”
Well ok what is the evidence?
You have Trump tweeting out the CNN/WWF slamdown and the MSM is in an uproar. What evidence is there that there’s method and planning behind that tweet and not just a “Wow that’s funny.” reaction?
How can you tell the difference?
Well ok what is the evidence?
Haven’t we been talking about the evidence? His tweet has had predictable results which have already been commented upon here.
Was this Trump’s intent? Does it matter? Nobody is such an evil genius they can predict 20 moves ahead. Sometimes all you need is a good sense of humor.
“Haven’t we been talking about the evidence? ”
No Ken – all that has been said is that the genius is there. No evidence nor proof given. It’s conjecture.
I’m not saying all of this ISN’T planned and calculated. But there isn’t any evidence of that.
Has anyone noticed that every time Trump gives a great speech (which now includes several) it’s his defining speech?
But let’s not give him any credit since we certainly can’t question our premises about him.
Don’t whine Ken.
I give Trump credit when it’s due. He’s done a lot of good things so far. When he does, I give him credit. His selections for government positions, his foreign speeches, his EPA and immigration work is good – I especially like the fact that he didn’t give up on the Bqn but got it right to the Supreme Court.
He’s done a lot of good things and some not so good things. Right now the good far outweighs the bad.
I voted for him using the Schlicter criteria and so far I do not regret my vote.
