The latest on the ancient controversy of how long we can live.
I say it’s ultimately just physics, and there are no physical laws that require an upper limit on our age.

There is one. Entropy increases in a closed system. The universe is a closed system.
Dyson proposed a solution:

What has to happen is an entropy decrease. Saying there are no physical laws that require an upper limit on age is like saying there are no physical laws that say my car can’t run forever without any maintenance.
Sooner or later, parts weaken. Conduits get clogged. Detritus builds up. What keeps us alive already as long as we typically live is a massive system of repair and rejuvenation. It just isn’t able to keep up with the general decay indefinitely.
But, there are therapies now that are beginning to target the maintenance shop, as it were. Revitalizing the immune system. Replenishing the repair mechanisms. Those hold out the best hope, IMO.
Is the universe compact as well as closed?

Well, are you an atheist or an agnostic? If you are an agnostic, then perhaps you shouldn’t think it is “ultimately just physics.” For example, you can’t know what God has in mind for the spark of divine light within your soul. 🙂
I always operate on the assumption that there is no God.
I seriously doubt the man was 146. 120 seems to be a hard limit.
