I’ve wondered what would happen if the Ignoble Prizes started going for the jugular on things like this rather than playing for laughs.

Are they still around? They became irrelevant the time they awarded one to Dan Quayle (remember him?) and “Scientific American” made a big deal of that. He may or may not have been as stupid as mass media portrayed him, but he never claimed to be anything close to being a “scientist”.
