The problem I see with the study is that after only a few hours, the cats probably weren’t that hungry. If they’d been left without food or other stimulus for, say, 12 hours, I would be willing to bet their first order of business would have been food.
Yes, but you get us hungry enough and we’ll start eyeing the cat right back.
True, but it would take more than 12 hours.
Our cats nap together, share the feeding station, and play together whenever the neutered male — youngest of the three — can get one of the spayed females to go along, but for pure pleasant interaction that goes on for more than a few minutes they come to the humans.
On the other hand, the male comes to me all lovey-dovey most reliably when the feeding station needs replenishing…
