This is an excellent example of how simplistic too many people’s (including medical professionals) view of diet, dietary fat and obesity remain. The simply notion that you are what you eat is stupid.

Must not be many fat people reading this entry, so I’ll go for it!
I’m 61, I’ve been overweight since my 20’s, then obese, then morbidly obese. But I never developed ANY of the fat people trouble. I’ve had nurses / docs take my bp, then go get another cuff, because a 400lb man CANNOT have a good bp.
In fact at nearly 400lbs I was still working as an I/C tech and co-gen operator in the oil patch outside of Bakersfield. My job required hours a day on my feet, climbing, hauling, running gear, pulling hoses, etc. The last job I did there was climb a 35′ ladder, with a 40lb motor in a makeshift pack frame, because the pulley we should use was hosed and we needed cooling water NOW.
I am currently set up for bariatric surgery because my weight DOES affect my arthritis and fybromayalgia. This is the 2nd time starting this journey and only got stopped before because of medical incompetence and blatant fat folks bigotry.
Most of the maladies that I have, that literally disabled me 20 odd years ago, are damned near identical to what my paternal grandmother had. A woman who at her largest, weighed about 125 or 130. And yet, I’ve had myriad health workers tell me my maladies are because of my weight.
The two wildest ones are having been told that earaches…yep, swimmer’s ear even that go around..and toenail fungus were BECAUSE of my weight. Given that, and my large friends can say they’ve heard as crazy stuff, how can we trust many of these clowns to get us or keep us well?
I’ve had MDs tell me that vegetable oil has cholesterol in it. I’ve heard plenty of nonsense. My “preferred” MD buzzword is “chronic”. It basically means “I don’t know how to cure it and I don’t give a shit”.
