I’m pretty certain they’ll built part of it; the station-less, train-less stretch out near Bakersfield. After all, the Central Valley clearly needs a high speed rail system with no trains and stations, plus (little trivial detail) they’re getting our federal money to do it.
I do hope it gets canceled, and believe it will be, but they’ve got many billions more to waste before they get to that point.
Yes, this caper will end when the money runs out. And it’s a classic attempt at creating a huge sunk cost so that it’ll be hard to abandon the project at that future time.
