Learn? They already know, Rand. They predict chaos and blood running in the streets because they know it won’t happen. It’s useful for scaring the ill-informed though.
The truth is that they don’t want you to be able to defend yourself from an overreaching government. They don’t want you to have free speech, because they know what a failure socialism has always been. They know and it doesn’t matter. All that matters is power.
I moved from gun-controlled Maryland, where the shooting and murder rates are through the roof, to gun-friendly Virginia – where the only mass shootings are in “gun free zones,” and the crime rate is WAY below that of Maryland just to be able to enjoy my own guns. I don’t hunt, but I love target-shooting. And I’m prepared to make any attacker a target.
What always gets me about the people who oppose guns for self-defense is their utter lack of respect for a) the people who want to defend themselves in terms of ability to defend themselves without wreaking havoc on others, and b) their utter disregard for the lives of those who would be saved by defending themselves.
What? Open carry? Oh, the horror! Surely, disaster is in the offing!
This resident of Arizona, which has had open carry for at least decades (and now universal concealed carry, too, no permit needed) is shocked, shocked I say, that open carry in Texas is now legal.
I’m shocked it took them so darn long.
I live in Texas and have yet to see anyone swinging a pistol from their hip. By and large the majority of conceal carry users just prefer to stay that way in order to not paint a target on their back. But people who do conceal carry by and large favored the open carry law because before you could’t have any bulge or outline under your clothing that suggested you were carry a firearm even if you had a CCW license. Or, if a gust of wind flipped up your shirt you had to reach for the top shelf at the grocery store and someone saw the handle of your pistol sticking out you could technically be charged with brandishing. Now with the open carry it got rid of all that nitpicky crap and you can carry without fear of someone pointing and screaming at you like a body snatcher if they happen to see the outline of your pistol under your shorts. Plus, all the holsters that tuck under the waist band and masked the outline of the gun in order to be compliant to the old law were difficult to use in the event you actually did need to draw your weapon in a situation where moments count.
