  1. The Democrat party believes victim status trumps the rule of law. Transgenderes threatening Ben Shaprio; supposedly threatened women on campus; illegal immigrants, etc.

    Get the press to rally and create a victimized group and voila! all laws go out the door.

    As for Shapiro and Tur, He was deliberately causing offense, she retaliated with a threat that no one there, including Shapiro, took seriously. I try not to go around deliberately offending people because it can get you more than threats.

    2. I will try to explain it to you one more time. He was not “deliberately causing offense.” He was making a point, that one can’t simply decide on one’s own what one’s gender is, and expect everyone else to agree. As to causing offense, yes, the precious snowflake may have been offended but, while he was indifferent as to whether he or she was, that wasn’t (necessarily) his intent. But he made politically incorrect speech, and so he must be punished by the mob.

        During the debate Shapiro said “feelings aren’t facts”, a lot like Sheldon would if trying to argue for the application of the laws of the physical world to the human world, now with your “He was not deliberately causing offense” argument, it sounds like Shapiro’s best defense for his offensiveness is that he’s got Aspergers Well it seems to me that Tur could use the same defense, she wasn’t deliberately threatening him, she was just putting a friendly arm around him and trying to explain that she found his comment offensive and that it made her feel angry.

        So maybe they’ve both got Asbergers.

          Or (like me) he’s not willing to pervert the language merely to avoid offending someone. Someone is likely to be offended no matter what you do or say. Once you let someone being offended control your behavior, it will never end with these totalitarians, as we’ve seen on campus over the past decades.

          And Tur was threatening him, and deliberately so, to intimidate him into compliance. There was nothing “friendly” about it.

  3. It’s the faulty logic Rand displays here that’s responsible for lots of the crap in the world today, that is that physical violence is so terrible a thing to do while emotional abuse and other offensive behaviour intended to hurt the victim is fine and dandy:

    A punch in the playgrounds a horrific act, but verbal abuse and cyber bullying is nothing to worry about.

    Spanking a naughty child is child abuse (it’s illegal in many countries now) but parents emotionally abusing children goes under the radar.

    Corporal punishment of criminals must be outlawed as cruel and inhumane, but locking them up for 10 years in an environment that’ll make them even more antisocial and violent is considered sane.
