Heading up to San Jose. I’ll be checking in later, though via laptop.

Have a good trip!
But just think, Rand, if you were taking this trip when the California “High speed” rail line from LA to San Fran was running, instead of driving or flying, you could make your way to Union station, go through airline-type security there (plus the demand to arrive hours early, just like an airport), pay twice what airfare would cost, board your non-express “high speed” train (which will run on conventional tracks at low speed much of the way), and be in San Jose in just four times the time it would take to fly.
Isn’t that worth a hundred billion?
ACJ: I prefer the ultra-high speed maglev, + EM railgun evacuted tube line!! LA to SF in 30 minutes, and if the “big one” hits while in transit, you’ll never know it! 😉
I envision this scenario: At one point you’re deeply absorbed reading an article in the WSJ on your tablet and the next thing you know, there’s Rod Serling welcoming you to the station stop at Willowby in 1895. 🙂
