It’s time for it to die.
I have to continually kill the process to keep the browser from hanging.
[Late afternoon update]
Adobe has patched it again.

Get a browser plugin that only runs Flash when you tell it to, and that will stop.
Flash delenda est.
This works both in Firefox & Pale Moon: click on Tools/Add-Ons/Plug-ins. On the Shockwave Flash plugin select “Ask to Activate” instead of “Always On.” After this Flash will only run when you click on a Flash object, and the browser asks if you wish to let it run. You can select “just this once”, or “always.”
It’s nice to have it around to see embedded video, if you wish.
I second this. I had FlashBlock on Firefox for years. and recently Chrome problems persuaded me to install FlashControl. Since then Chrome has been much more stable, especially when I have my usual number of open tabs (lots of them).
On Chrome I use “Flashcontrol.” I can whitelist certain sites or pages but my default setting is to suppress everything until I ask for it.
Time for it to die? It’s always dying (with the annoying effect of freezing unrelated browser pages.)
I don’t see how to turn it off in Chrome?
