It really seems like an overly elaborate (and badly mistimed) April Fool’s joke, at best.
Delusion doesn’t require accurate knowledge. You do wonder though, how off the rails society is that we can’t identify and marginalize the delusional a bit more efficiently? Especially when it’s so blatant?
Honestly? I think some people assumed putting them in government would be better than locking them up in looney bins.
