“I’ll assume he’s alive until I see the corpse.” One other possibility is that there’s been a putsch, perhaps over the assassination, and he’s under arrest, but they haven’t figured out who’s in charge yet to make an announcement. But usually such things are resolved much more quickly.

Very, very, very worst case scenario. He’s off somewhere negotiating a 1939 style Nazi-Soviet pact with the Chinese. In that case, it would be better if he were actually deceased. But mundane as it is, the flu is probably the most likely explanation.
Maybe he’s off getting a facelift and a hair transplant. Those things take time. Just ask Pelosi – she disappears for weeks on end and she comes back with her face looking like a drum head.
Have we seen any major change in Russian policy since Putin was last seen in public?
