[Update a while later]
Why is everyone so surprised that a classically trained woman can sing?
She's broadening her audience, and reviving classic popular music to a new generation. Good for her.

Well I was surprised. I liked her music but most modern singers can’t sing worth a damn outside the studio. She had some trouble with the high notes in The Sound of Music but her performance was damn near perfect.
She has all kinds of songs and I haven’t liked most of what she has produced in a long time. I liked it more when she started and the music was more electronic. It was kind of like European dance music and electropop. But this performance good. I hope she focuses more on her classical singing voice now instead of gimmicks.
She did a very good rendition of Baby It’s Cold Outside with Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Agreed. I was pleasantly surprised by that video last year, so hearing that she did an album with Tony Bennett, or that medley, was less of a surprise.
Don’t know why she spent so much time on the crud music & meat dresses for so long, though.
She’s done some work with Tony Bennett, so not caught by surprise.

I don’t think anyone who’s been paying much attention was surprised. It was probably just people who’d just read weird stories about her, or heard a few of her pop songs.
I’ve always had the greatest of respect for her. She came out of a university program in music and tried doing gigs in the Lower East side. Probably played some of the same place I did, and around the same time. But she realized she was going nowhere unless she made her self unique. So she ‘invented’ Lady Gaga and got her gimmick and from there became a fairly wealthy woman.
He singing on those songs is brilliant… however the tatoos lend a jarring note. If she wants to move back to her musical roots she can certainly afford the laser treatment to remove them.
Tatoo’s really aren’t that good looking… and they get worse with age.
