Sid Caesar

RIP.

Most people are probably too young to know who he was, but he was a comedy genius, of my parents’ time.

[Update Saturday morning]

OK, so I was a year late with the announcement. I was on an airplane just following Twitter links, and didn’t check the date. Worth remembering anyway.

  1. I thought he passed away a while back. Truly a comedy great, with an amazing legacy.

The article missed a major Sid Caesar inspired film/character. My Favorite Year was based on his old TV show, and the character King Kaiser was based on Sid.

    RIP.

  2. One of the immortals of the original Golden Age of TV. Before my time, but I’ve seen retrospectives; just brilliant. Between him and Ernie Kovacs, all of the essentials of TV comedy were laid out by the end of the ’50s.

    1. Yeah, I should have checked the date on that, just saw it on Twitter. I do recall it now (and was a little surprised that he was still alive, but not enough to check the date).

Anyway, he’s still worth remembering on the first anniversary of his death. 🙂

  3. No argument there. I wish that Ernie Kovacs were better known though; arguably even more influential than Caesar.
