Despite this call for that, what it needs is a completely different approach, but there are insufficient opportunities for graft in that.

Also, the same corrupt reasons that NASA doesn’t do much with its funding is the same reasons it won’t get more funding. Space whatever is not important to the politicians that control the purse. The current level of funding gets them the appearance of doing stuff in space. That’s all that is politically needed.
Ironically, NASA’s existence holds us back. People looking to NASA would have to look for more efficient options from private companies and SpaceX would have some real competition.
I agree with these general sentiments;
* SLS is a boondoggle rocket to nowhere that exists only for the continued employment of its various contractors
* Additional funding directed toward NASA, might end up down the SLS black hole or in another wasteful program that is of little or no benefit to those outside of NASA
However, we should acknowledge that it is possible to leverage some of the NASA largess into practical purposes. SpaceX has benefited greatly by engaging with NASA and win commercial crew/cargo business.
Also, while not very efficient, gov’t space efforts have produced results via unmanned missions to the planets.
Nobody can say NASA hasn’t had achievements, but the money they burn goes faster than rocket exhaust. Well beyond criminal if there were any oversight. Yeah, I’m pointing a finger at the corrupt politicians (forgive the redundancy.)
With that level of abuse SpaceX and others can’t help but get some of the scraps. It wasn’t intentional no matter what they might claim now.
