It was blatherskite:
As an act of rare semantic derring-do, this was a towering achievement. As a political speech, I don’t think it was very effective. It puts one in mind of the debate in “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” which ends when one side manages to prove that black is white — and gets themselves killed at the next pedestrian crosswalk.
To be honest, it’s not clear to me that the president was trying to be persuasive. He seemed, rather, to be triple-dog-daring Republicans to jump off the bridge with him, and if history is any guide, they will probably oblige. But there’s a real risk that Democrats will come to regret having the president jump first.
Reportedly some of them already are. He may have created a wedge issue for his own party.
blatherskite……..which is to say it’s the usual Obama self-cntradictory illogic and insanity.
Charles Hurt says it best:
“In his strange remarks, the president dismissed the notion that legalizing some five million illegals is somehow amnesty.
“Amnesty is the immigration system we have today — millions of people who live here without paying their taxes or playing by the rules, while politicians use the issue to scare people and whip up votes at election time,” he said.
“That’s the real amnesty — leaving this broken system the way it is.”
What are you talking about, sir? Have you lost your mind?
One minute, you talk about the hell that is these illegals’ lives by “living in the shadows” and the next thing you say is how that is some kind of amnesty. You are talking nonsense.
Then — after describing your amnesty plan — you say this: “What I’m describing is accountability.”
Wait a minute. You are telling us your plan is to legalize five million people who broke the law by coming here illegally. And yet you somehow call that “accountability?”
Have you gone mad, sir? Do you know the definition of “accountability”? You might want to look it up.
Then you said: “Undocumented workers broke our immigration laws, and I believe that they must be held accountable –- especially those who may be dangerous.”
Okay, first off, you are going to hold them “accountable” by legalizing them? Wowsa. This is truly cray-cray, sir.
And then — wait, what did you say? Especially those who may be dangerous? You mean you have dangerous criminals who are here illegally and you have not moved heaven and earth to find them and jail them or deport them and make sure the never ever come back again.
In the end, that is what this whole debate is really about.”

“Amnesty is the immigration system we have today — millions of people who live here without paying their taxes or playing by the rules, while politicians use the issue to scare people and whip up votes at election time,”
I thought not paying taxes was a crime. If he knows they are not paying taxes, did he layout a plan to have the IRS audit them?
“millions of people who live here without paying their taxes or playing by the rules”
This is the exact opposite of what Obama and the Democrats have been saying. Their previous claim was that illegal immigrants already pay taxes and are playing by the rules.
It is just endless doublespeak and lies from this administration.
Obama:
“You better learn English now that you have come out of the shadows or we’ll throw you out of the country!”
Oh yeah right.
“Better turn yourselves in and pay up or we’ll throw you out of the country!”
Yeah right……
“You people getting ready to come across the border – don’t try it we’re going to stop you!”
Yeah right……
and on and on and on
What isn’t being got is the real issue. Too many laws means selection of enforcement (otherwise known as tyranny.)
None of the rest matters until we deal with this issue. Nothing else is fixable if we do not deal with this issue.
Any law not uniformly enforced should automatically be void.
This would make all the hand wringing and whining irrelevant.
Instapundit posted this link to the Volokh Conspiracy article which indicates that young Prince Barry would disagree with modern-day King Barry:

I wonder if back then, Jim was sending in comments saying, “Obama’s right about that!”
That is really the story of the Democrat party. Everything they claimed to stand for when Bush was President have been shown to be they really couldn’t care less about when Obama is President. They were never making a principled stand, just a partisan one. The damage they did to the country in the process is excusable.
AND the moment there’s a GOP President, they will flip flop again.
Here in MA. When a Democrat was Governor, the legislature allowed the Gov to appoint an interim US Senator until a special election could be held.
Then a GOP guv was in the same position so they nizxed that rule.
Then a Dem became Gov and lo-and-behold…. the Guv can now appoint interim senators!
