Well, yeah. If whatever amount of statism they’ve already tried isn’t working, obviously it wasn’t enough.
I think a large part of the problem is the collapse of various protectionist schemes in Europe. For example, China firms now routinely do ISO certification; regulation strangles EU businesses; and the social safety net now creates more of the problems it was supposed to solve such as massive unemployment.
