The IRS also targeted groups that had the temerity to try to teach people about the Constitution. Well, they are a threat to big government.

It was pretty much any group that was not affiliated with the Democrat party. The Democrats have been keeping the focus on the Tea Party because people, and the Democrats at large, are less sympathetic to them after years of character slurs.
Democrats have dehumanized the Tea Party to the point where Democrats not only accept but cheer on the persecution of the Tea Party.
Who knows how the public would react if the media didn’t just focus on the Tea Party and never mention the other victims. But some of them will continue to deny the political persecution is taking place or encourage more of it.
This is like Jim Crow except instead of race, non-Democrat opinions are the criteria preventing people from having all the same rights and privileges as Democrats.
This is like Jim Crow except instead of race
If you try I’m sure you can come up with a few differences between a white supremacist reign of terror and delayed 501c4 applications.
It’s closer to what Democrats do in big city machine politics, using the arm of the law and protected bureaucracy to harass their opponents by revoking business licenses, denying applications, and looking for any infractions that could result in fines and jail time. Such people should never be allowed anywhere near government, because they view it as a weapon to be used against anyone who disagrees with them or their unbridled use of power.
Actually, I think Wodun was a bit more accurate and the “except” was unnecessary. Jim Crow laws were passed by Democrats to prevent others from having the same rights and privileges as Democrats. The exception this time is Democrats weren’t even trying to pass laws. The only reason it didn’t become a reign of terror is good people had the power to step in and stop the Democrats this time.
The only reason it didn’t become a reign of terror is good people had the power to step in and stop the Democrats this time.
The wayward targeting was disclosed by the IRS itself, just ahead of the report by the administration’s own inspector general. The targeting was immediately denounced by Democrats from Obama on down. Are those the “good people” you mean?
The targeting was immediately denounced by Democrats from Obama on down.
And ever since, they’ve been defending it, and prejudiced the case with the Justice Department and the president declaring that there “wasn’t a smidgen of corruption,” and the FBI declaring that there would be no charges filed, even though there’s been no actual investigation.
“The targeting was immediately denounced by Democrats from Obama on down. ”
You mean this Obama:
“There’s not a smidgen of corruption.”
That Obama?
And do you mean Democrats like Carl Levin and Jean Sheheen among others who sent a letter to the IRS exhorting them to harrass the Tea Party?
Those Democrats?
“The targeting was immediately denounced by Democrats from Obama on down.”
This administration – most notably Obama and Hillary – have made a habit of saying they were “responsible” for a problem but not doing the follow-up a person who is person would do. Obama has promised many times he’d track down…find….fix..punish etc and of course nothing would happen.
Hillary is even worse: she told grieving family of one of the Benghazi slaughtered that the cause if the massacre was in jail (video maker)…right in front of the casket.
No sorry Jim: any mere *statement* by this crowd is absolutely meaningless.
Besides what Rand and Gregg noted, lets just close the loop on all the BS Jim wrote.
The wayward targeting was disclosed by the IRS itself
It was? You mean when Congress sent a letter to Lerner in 2011, 10 days prior to harddrive crashing, asking if they was in appropriate targeting; Lerner disclosed that fact to Congress?
Well no Jim, that never happened. In fact, Lerner nor the IRS disclosed the targeting for 2 years ask Congress asked if it was happening.
The disclosure first came from the Treasury Department IG. Lerner then conspired with others to find a way to get ahead of the IG report in attempt to diminish the IG reports impact. Those facts have been known for awhile now. So I don’t understand why Jim continues to lie about something like this.
Quit lying Jim. We are not buying your BS.
” The wayward targeting was disclosed by the IRS itself, just ahead of the report ”
Yes, Lerner planted a question in a press conference and blamed rogue agents. That is not very ethical.
” The targeting was immediately denounced by Democrats from Obama on down. ”
Words mean nothing. The IRS continued the illegal behavior during and after the IG investigation. Obama’s DOJ, the impartial nonpartisan investigators, have been colluding with congressional Democrats on document leaks and PR campaigns.
Democrats did nothing to stop what is still ongoing.
“There’s not a smidgen of corruption.”
That Obama?
Yes, that one. By that point it was clear to anyone without an ideological agenda that the targeting was a matter of incompetence, not corruption. There have been hundreds of interviews and subpoenas of tens of thousands of documents, and they still haven’t found any evidence that the keyword targeting was carried out for political motives.
So, again, who were the “good people” who put an end to keyword targeting?
There have been hundreds of interviews and subpoenas of tens of thousands of documents, and they still haven’t found any evidence that the keyword targeting was carried out for political motives.
Because the documents haven’t been released. Many of them have reportedly (depending on what day of the week you ask) been destroyed.
So, again, who were the “good people” who put an end to keyword targeting?
How do we know they put an end to it?
You mean when Congress sent a letter to Lerner in 2011, 10 days prior to harddrive crashing, asking if they was in appropriate targeting; Lerner disclosed that fact to Congress?
That letter was about gift taxes, and audits of donors to Tea Party groups. It wasn’t about keyword targeting of Tea Party groups’ 501c4 applications.
“That letter was about gift taxes, and audits of donors to Tea Party groups. ”
Yes, and the IG report showed a systemic effort to persecute political dissidents. Lerner and the IRS didn’t come clean about what was going on. It took IG investigations, lawsuits, and congress to get a peak at what the Obama administration is doing.
“By that point it was clear to anyone without an ideological agenda that the targeting was a matter of incompetence, not corruption.”
Lerner created a hand picked group of 40 people and she acted in coordination with the heads of the IRS. That is corruption. This wasn’t the work of a few rogue agents.
“and they still haven’t found any evidence that the keyword targeting was carried out for political motives”
Except all the evidence that shows that only non-Democrat groups were sent to the secret separate system. And you can’t claim it isn’t political when the DOJ is leaking documents and coordinating PR campaigns with congressional Democrats.
“So, again, who were the “good people” who put an end to keyword targeting?”
It didn’t stop.
“anyone without an ideological agenda”
Don’t pretend you don’t have an ideology, Jim. Not having an ideology means you’ve given no thought whatsoever to any political issue, ever. An ideology is a political belief system: what is right? what is wrong? what should we do? should we do anything?
Democrats do indeed have an ideological agenda. Just because Republicans and Libertarians also have ideological agendas doesn’t make the Democrat ideology any less wrong.
Yep, just a delay. Keep thinking that if it makes you feel better.
You mean a Democrat reign of terror, right?
“and delayed 501c4 applications.”
What happened was not just the non-Democrat groups were delayed for years while democrat groups got speedy rejections or approvals. The information gathered by the IRS was designed as opposition research for the Democrat party and that information was passed on to Democrat activist groups and who knows who else.
Non-Democrat groups were prevented from organizing like Democrat groups do. The mechanism for this was the creation of a separate system that applied only to non-Democrats. The criteria for whether or not you were subjected to this discriminatory system was political affiliation.
As George Turner points out, this is like preventing non-Democrats from having business licences or getting permits as they did to black people not so long ago. Remember the government shutdown? Democrats would not let non-Democrats even access public lands but when Democrat activist groups occupy public lands, the Democrats in government encouraged it to happen and gave their activist groups preferential treatment.
What we are seeing is the formation of a caste system in America where those who are Democrats get all the rights and privileges traditionally enjoyed by American citizens, plus some extras, while non-Democrats are not allowed to exercise those same rights and privileges. How far off are we from seeing Democrats preventing companies that are not affiliated with the Democrat party from receiving government contracts or getting permits?
this is like preventing non-Democrats from having business licences
That’s a better comparison than Jim Crow; being denied a business license is a far cry from having your bus fire-bombed. But it’s a stretch even then. A business without a business license can’t operate. The groups with delayed 501c4 applications were free to do everything that groups with approved 501c4 applications could do. The major thing that official 501c4 status gets you is the legal right to keep your donors private, and to my knowledge none of the groups with applications in limbo were ever forced to publicly disclose their donors. Sure, it’s a hassle to have government paperwork take forever to be resolved. But to compare that to the domestic terrorism of Jim Crow, or even the shutting down of businesses, is wild hyperbole.
The mechanism for this was the creation of a separate system that applied only to non-Democrats.
You know that isn’t true. Groups associated with Democrats were flagged and delayed as well, and at least one was rejected. There was no separate system for non-Democrats.
The Democrat Jim Crow laws didn’t call for the fire bombing of busses. That was white Democrat terrorism against blacks. Democrat Jim Crow laws restricted the rights of non-whites, who at the time happened to be more in line with the Republican Party.
There’s no point in giving Jim facts. He cherry picks around your argument and twists your facts to agree with his narrative.
Groups were forced to give donor lists and then the IRS gave those list to Democrat activists. The DOJ just settled a case where this happened but didn’t prosecute the IRS for it.
Jim Crow was a system of laws to keep black people from participating in society and this is what Obama’s IRS is doing. Firebombs were not a part of Jim Crow laws but if you really want to talk about violence used by Democrats for politics, we can go there.
” Groups associated with Democrats were flagged and delayed as well”
Democrat groups flagged by a BOLO search went into a separate system than non-Democrat groups. They either received normal or preferential treatment. Non-Democrat groups went into a totally different system with different rules and requirements. Zero Democrat groups went through what non-Democrat groups did.
A single Democrat group being rejected is incomparable to hundreds of groups forced to wait years for a determination one way or another while the IRS is conducting opposition research for the Democrats.
Do you know why the IG report was instigated? Donors to non-Democrat groups complained they were being audited for no other reason than not being Democrats. This isn’t just about paperwork delays but I like how you try and claim there are no victims and the victims are really at fault for what happened.
Democrat groups flagged by a BOLO search went into a separate system than non-Democrat groups.
Which resulted in the same sorts of onerous requests for information and long delays.
Firebombs were not a part of Jim Crow
Jim Crow wasn’t just laws saying that blacks couldn’t sit with whites on buses, it was an understanding that if blacks did sit with whites on buses, whites would be free to attack them without fear of legal consequences. Which they did.
And yes, Jim Crow was the work of Democrats, like Bull Connor and Lyndon Johnson. It was destroyed by other Democrats, like John Lewis and Lyndon Johnson.
“Which resulted in the same sorts of onerous requests for information and long delays.”
No, it didn’t. OFA got tax exempt status in under 30 days. Democrat groups received speedy determinations. What Democrat group had to wait three years and have all of their info given to the opposition?
“Jim Crow wasn’t just laws ”
I was referring specifically to Jim Crow laws that prevented black people from fully participating in society just like Democrats are preventing non-Democrat groups from organizing like Democrats do.
Jim Crow wasn’t just laws saying that blacks couldn’t sit with whites on buses, it was an understanding that if blacks did sit with whites on buses, whites would be free to attack them without fear of legal consequences. Which they did.
Indeed, that is true. What legal consquences has the DoJ forced the IRS to face? A few thousand in taxpayer (read other people’s money) for disclosing confidential information but no jail time?
You seem to be making Wodun’s point.
<obligatory reminder that the Ku Klux Klan was merely the militant wing of the Democratic Party goes here.>
When will they be held accountable? [crickets chirping]
Dude, she lost her job! You expect her to lose her 6 figure pension too? She might not be able to afford her $2.5 million home and fly to disaster areas to pick through belongings evacuating victims left behind.
Where I’d like to see her living, she’d have little need for money. She can work in the prison laundry to get the money she needs for things at the commissary.
And yes, Jim Crow was the work of Democrats, like Bull Connor and Lyndon Johnson. It was destroyed by other Democrats, like John Lewis and Lyndon Johnson.
What an absurd statement. You compare the two as if they are equal. They were not. Democrats were overwhelmingly against civil rights and a very small handful were pro civil rights.
