Is it being overhyped?
I fearlessly predict that, as with any other experience, some will be underwhelmed, and others will have their expectations exceeded.
In related news, tired of waiting, and fearing that they won’t get to the (arbitrary) von Karman line, some Virgin Galactic customers are demanding refunds.
[Update a few minutes later]
Richard Branson’s credibility is collapsing in the media.
It’s the standard journalist behavior cycle: fawning adulation, then indignant outrage, then they forget all about it and go chase a squirrel.
Following a link in one of the comment threads led me to glassdoor reviews by VG employees which talked about management problems and some other issues.
I think their root problem is that they have a clever re-entry technique married to the wrong type of engine, and the management problems somehow turned that simple issue (switch to a liquid) into an almost insurmountable hurdle.
In the article about Branson’s credibility crumbling they mentioned how fancy the VG headquarters building’s architecture was and said he’d “spared no expense.” That made me imagine Jurassic Park being completed and ready for throngs of tourists – except for the part about successfully cloning any dinosaurs for them to see.
…and Branson’s exhibits could eat you as well. He should give refunds.
