As is the case in California, laws are only for those willing to obey them.

With this college campus treatment of relations between young men and women, especially under the influence of alcohol, I think that students and especially men students need to rethink the whole matter of campus social life.
I mean back in the day, you had men’s dorms and women’s dorms and if a man was in a woman’s room after a certain hour, this was a grave rules violation. We broke down those barriers; men and women are to occupy the same living space, and men are to try and not think about it, women on campus wear very short clothes, and men are to try and not think about it because it doesn’t mean consent to anything, men and women attend parties where C2H5OH lowers inhibitions, but men are to not think about it at a time they are not thinking because it doesn’t mean consent to anything.
Back in the day we had gender segregation and dress codes, but that was all a Medieval repression that only certain parts of the world still subscribe to. Not that young men didn’t stay past hours in young women’s dorm rooms, but people were conscious of the rules and conscious of breaking the rules and the need to face punishment if caught.
We as men are complaining about the unfairness of what is happening to young men after a man gets drunk, a woman gets drunk, certain things happen, a woman regrets what happened, a man appears before one of these college tribunals to be expelled and have a red A stamped on this transcript having nothing to do with a grad point average.
So in college, there are still Rules to the same effect, but how they are applied has changed a little bit. Back in the day, you couldn’t be in a woman’s room after a certain hour. Today, you really need to stay sober when women are in attendance, and if a woman is intoxicated, she doesn’t “dig you” as much as the alcohol is talking.
I really think we must have The Talk with young men entering college, not that they are in a religious seminary and have to maintain vows of celibacy, although that may be a “path” for some men to negotiate college life. It might be similar to The Talk the military gives (male) soldiers deployed to Middle Eastern countries regarding the grave perils of “fraternization” with local women. Instead of the barrel of her uncle’s AK aimed at your nether regions, there is the peril of facing one of these college tribunals. Sure it is repressive and there is nothing fair about it, but do you want to return from your tour-of-duty/degree program with your manhood/good name intact? There is nothing fair and especially not librated about any of this, but such has been the norm throughout places and time.
As to the clumsy efforts of college rule makers to come up with elaborate, new rules for how college women are to express consent to college men, I think we should indoctrinate young men that they too can withhold consent, even if the woman they are with appears to be eager. I think that a man need to think through the circumstances under which proceeding with what a woman appears to have granted consent is not in that man’s best interest. As we have equalized the standing of the sexes, I think we need to indoctrinate men to be selective with their affections just as women have been indoctrinated for centuries.
