I expect they don’t. Much like those multi-hundred dollar textbooks that are available on Kindle, they had to make it for sale so they they could offer to “rent” it as an ebook.
Springer-Verlag specializes in selling high-end technical books to specialized markets. They’ve always been pricey, even for an academic publisher.

That is not a Springer title!
On my desk I have $900 of Springer titles at this very minute, that comes to 5 books. And they aren’t the most expensive. Three if them I use multiple times a week.
When you are in an obscure field they can ream you and your university.
Elesvier is even worse but they haven’t published a title I would pay for since the early 80s.
