More like 50 years back, if you go back to the ad run by Johnson against Goldwater, telling people that voting for him was voting for nuclear war. It simply does not matter to the “progressives”, because they are still certain that people as smart as they were told they were in college (as a direct consequence of graduation) can calculate the best policy, or at least that people like them want to, or that they at least aren’t those coarse money-grubbers.

And “Parson Bill” Moyers, the man largely responsible for that ad, is still posing as the Voice of Righteousness.
Not sure any party has a lock on dishonesty in campaign adds…
