Rand, how would you reconcile the comments by George at Jon’s site with the report you linked in your post a couple of days ago? Perhaps they are consistent and Jon is reading too much into them?
Personally, I am strongly against over-regulation, we see way too much of it everywhere. I’d think that 50 years of spaceflight experience should provide some insight into writing new spaceflight rules. Just depends how that insight is applied.
A bit of a hijack but we’re getting a good dose of over-regulation and bureaucratic nonsense here in Canada this month – do a search on Swiss Arms prohibition for some interesting reading.
Essential the RCMP decided that about 12000 various rifles in circulation in Canada were suddenly too dangerous for us to own, and changed the rules without any consultation, which may yet lead to confiscation without compensation. Thanks to previous governments for writing terrible legislation the whole issue is clear as mud, but with the power of the Internet word got around quickly, many letters have been written, and the present government realized that perhaps they can’t sweep this under the carpet any longer. Hope they do the right thing to de-criminalize firearms ownership, but it’s far from certain at this point.
