It’s hard for those outside of Alabama to understand how seriously college football is taken here. In Alabama, when they talk about mixed marriages, they aren’t talking about trivial things like race, religion or politics. No, they’re talking about an Alabama fan marrying an Auburn fan. It actually does happen from time to time. There are license plate covers you can buy that read, A House Divided. Some of those marriages actually survive but it’s as big a mystery as James Carvelle and Mary Matalin. Some things just make you cringe.
What do you make of AJ McCarron dating Katherine Webb, who is an Auburn alumnus and fan? What do you make of the recent charges that Katherine is a racist for hitting “favorite” on an apparently racist tweet about Jameis Winston from AJ’s mother, which she claims was done by accident? Should an Auburn fan have to defend herself and her honor because of the questionable character of the family of a University of Alabama player? What about her silence over her boyfriend’s uncle being a recently arrested member of a pedophile ring that was allegedly raping and killing young girls? Did AJ’s potentially compromising (if not treasonous) relationship with Katherine in any way influence the outcome of the Alabama Auburn game?
“I know those people, and they’re the type who won’t watch “Duck Dynasty” because it’s too high-brow.”
I’ve always enjoyed Achenbach, but that was a real gem.
