For the record, I want to commend NASA on its willingness to send astronauts out when they still have an unknown problem with the EMU. Fixing the ISS justifies the risk.

Definitely the right call. I’m pretty sure the snorkels are equivalent to the WWII shark ‘repellant’ bags that sailors were given: they’ll do nothing at best. Based on the way water reacts in zero-g shown by Chris Hadfield (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMtXfwk7PXg), the water will just coat everything with a thin layer. I see the absorbent cloths mentioned as being more useful in case of a leak.
For some reason, when I think of being covered in a thin layer of water in space, my eyes start tearing.
