What happens in Obama’s America is that people think that it’s intrinsically racist to criticize the president. If that cartoon had been published six years ago, with “Obama’s” replaced by “Bush’s,” would it have been racist then? If not, what would be the difference, other than the melanin content of the two mens’ skin? The editor shouldn’t have apologized, or retracted. He should have called out the detractors as the racialist demagogues they are.

“Unfortunately, many people have developed an unhealthy opinion that all of the problems the United States has faced is a direct result of the decisions President Barack Obama has made during his terms as president. To place blame for the problems of the world on one man’s shoulders is not only disrespectful to our country’s leader, but also a scapegoat, devaluing the real roots of the problems themselves.”
However, it is healthy to assign to Obama the responsibility for the fallout of his policies.
Someone should send this to Obama and highlight how scapegoating devalues the real roots of the problems. Ahh, but that is why Obama does it isn’t it?
It’s sad that people thought the cartoon was criticizing Obama, and a shame that the paper felt they had to apologize for their readers’ inability to detect satire.
Premise 1. Conservatives/Libertarian/Right Wingers, in the opinion of people who agree with President Obama’s program, tend to blame Mr. Obama for everything wrong in the world.
Premise 2. Students who write for student newspapers tend to have a more liberal slant.
Premise 3. People at Auburn have a “wee wuz robbed” attitude about their team losing to Alabama.
Premise 4. A student cartoonist pokes fun at both how seriously people at Auburn take the football loss and the earnestness of Wingers in blaming Mr. Obama for anything and everything.
Premise 5. People who support Mr. Obama are so thin skinned that they cannot “get” a poke at the Right Wing for their (supposed) reflexive criticism about Mr. Obama?
Yes, it is indeed a sad day for America when a student on a college campus cannot even poke fun at critics of Mr. Obama.
Auburn won that game. The comic was apparently making fun of those who blame everything that goes wrong in the country on Obama. However, in the age of PC speech codes, the mandatory apologies went out because anything that even appears to criticize Obama is deemed racist.
