Looks like Google is serious, if they’ve hired Cynthia Kenyon.
This, like opening space, is something that the government isn’t going to do, for the same reason. There are too many powerful interests invested in the status quo.

Yea, rich people starting to get toward middle age and who want to live forever trying to forestall death….
Curiosity is good. Who know what we’ll find?
Poor people starting to get toward middle age and who want to live forever finding religion. Take your pick.
It’s OK: no-one will force you to live forever. But the deathists will die out and leave the future to the immortalists.
Dennis, a) I don’t know anyone who wants to live “forever.” They just want to live as long as they want to live. How long do you want to live?
b) They are trying to “forestall death,” but only if they can do so while living happily. The goal of the project is not life extension, per se, but anti-aging. Do you not understand the difference?
This is much like paying more taxes, people have opinions about other people, which they’re more than willing to force on them.
