A strange lacuna of responses to this one.
Well, I thought about posting a few links to some interesting looking books on Nazi economics, but if there was an actual debate I could supply an endless stream of direct quotes from Nazi leaders about how the Nazis were committed socialists. I love doing that.
A few months ago I was debating this with some glaringly ignorant liberals and one of the more amusing claims was that Hitler, Goebbels, et al, were only pretending to be a hard-core socialist to fool the working class. Well, it seems Goebbels was also trying to fool his own personal diary because in it he bragged about the glories of socialism, and it begs the question that if all the Nazis were tricked into thinking they were following socialism, that would still mean they were socialist fruitcakes, the same way that if Obama turned out to be a secret Reaganite conservative, however ridiculous that is, his legions of Obamabots would still be a bunch of left-wing fruitcakes.
Amusingly, one of the liberals claimed that a Hitler quote I provided were Hitler proclaimed that he was a socialist was fake because a Google search for it had the title “Debunked”. If he’d have read on, he’d see that the “debunking” was a strained claim that although Hitler really did claim that, he was only doing it to fool the German workers. The blogger who made the claim started a blog purely to try and refute the claim that the Nazis were socialists, and so he started digging into original sources. He made a total of 22 posts before disappearing from the Internet forever, having hit the same problem that all liberals encounter when trying to refute the claim by looking at original source material, the moment when they have an epiphany that goes “Holy G-d, the Nazis were freakin’ hard-core socialist radicals!” That’s why they can never find the actual “debunking” of such claims, only lots of equally wrong people claiming that the claim is debunked – somewhere, surely – by someone who actually has evidence. I mean, everyone knows it’s debunked, right?!
