“Thor’s all-powerful weapon “mjolnir” is simply and literally a blunt instrument. What else can you do with a hammer except smash things with it? It’s not like flying”
Except Thor uses the hammer to fly. Did this guy do any research like watching one of the movies or reading some wikipedia?
“A hammer is such a short extension of reach and force that Thor might as well just punch enemies in the face.”
Unless he throws it.
“Isn’t the hammer supposed to be so heavy only Thor can lift it?”
No.
I am not overly fond of Thor but this internet take down was pretty pathetic.
Mjolinir can be thrown, can alter its mass so no other being, including the Hulk, can pick it up, and can gather and discharge massive bolts of electricity. It is an awesome, multi-capability weapon of immense power.
The author of that piece was talking out of his ass about something outside his scope of expertise. Thor has been one of Marvel Tier 1 heros since the 1960s. I have read hundreds of issues of Thor over the years.
A poster named Wodun is not fond of child?
I know right? Crazy world we live in.
Wodun is another name for Odin but is also an alternate spelling for voodoo and was a great combo for an animistic ancestor worshipping barbarian shaman from the North. Now it is just a happy memory from my days of slaying pixle dragons and keeps the crazies from trying to get me fired or actually carrying out their internet death threats.
Should read his child. IIRC Wodun=Odin.
Ann & I went to see Last Vegas instead. I haven’t laughed that long and heartily at a movie in years. Two thumbs up.
Since we got married in Vegas ourselves, some of the gags were especially fun.
He gave Thorium it’s name. What more could we ask?
Wednesday=Wodun’s Day=Odin’s Day.
Thursday=Thor’s Day
I believe it is spelled Wotan/Woden/Odin etc.
In French the weekdays would be Mercredi and Jeudi i.e. Mercury’s Day and Jupiter’s Day.
Thor is the lord of thunder. Just like Jupiter.
The trinity of gods is depicted in many ancient religions. Heck even the Hittites had a religion like that.
The Norse trinity is usually depicted as Odin, Frey, Thor. The Greek/Roman as Zeus/Jupiter, Poseidon/Neptune, Hades/Pluto. Sort of interesting that for the weekdays they chose Ares/Mars and Tyr/Tiu instead of one of the other three.
As for Thor and Loki there is plenty that can be done which would be interesting. I saw the first movie. It sucked immensely. Certainly not in the same level as Batman, Iron Man, or Spiderman. It felt like a B movie all the way. The main characters are not worth watching. While Loki… well. Let’s say I would rather rewatch Wagner’s Ring Cycle. The movie has a definite lack of awesome in it. Also WTF with Heimdall? Must everything Hollywood regurgitates become like a commercial for the United Colors of Benneton?
But ya gotta like the Hulk smashing the puny god.
This review is a massive fail. Totally uninformed on the subject matter. The only part of the review I agree with is the lack of chemistry between Thor and Jane Foster, and since I’m a long time Lady Sif fan-boy, I’m probably biased.
