This is only a surprise to people who haven’t read Frank White’s book.
But I’m always amused by people who think that there will be no demand, or insufficient demand, for space experiences.

The entire mind set, of going into space, as a paid government researcher, and as a self paid for experience… has really not been experienced by many people. Once it starts…..
I think it funny when the hippies go on about being one with nature and part of a big continuum and all that about space. If I saw that the alligators or some other animals had beat us there I might reconsider the uniqueness of man, but it is absurd to think of any other critters on this planet putting up a space station.
But I am contrary by nature. I would really love to go and check it out, though.
Yes I know dogs and chimpanzees beat us there, but they weren’t even volunteers, per se.
Every now and then I hear someone say Virgin Galactic is never going to get any repeat customers.. because, ya know, who pays $250k for a few minutes of zero-g more than once?
They’ve got a good point, I mean, who goes back for a second hit of crack?
Zero-g is addictive. We’ve known this since the first yahoo jumped out of a hot air balloon. If you have the means, you feed your addiction.
