I’ve disabled the plugin that puts the share buttons on the posts, so let’s see if that helps page loading. But I’ve also noticed that there’s an update to it, so it might be that if I install the new version, it will fix it as well.
[Update a few minutes later]
OK, I”ve installed the new version. Let me know if you’re still having problems with page loads.
[Update a while later]
OK, new version didn’t fix it, so I’ve deactivated again. It does seem to be Google that was slowing things down.
Certainly working well without them. It may also be a “latest” browser issue. My home pc has the latest software and no problem. My work pc does not have the latest and has issues.
Yep, problems are back.
The Google-specific plugins seem to be still causing massive slowdown. When I try to load the main page with scripting re-enabled (see my comment here), the status bar lights up with loading slowdowns from google and facebook. The main “AddToAny” bar loads immediately and doesn’t seem to cause many issues, but I don’t know how AddToAny works to know if the Google Plus can be separately disabled or not.
Switch to desktop link now works too!
Hooray—thank you! The page used to take 30+ seconds to load and now loads in milliseconds.
I think the issue is simply that it uses https to fetch an image.
If you don’t have Chrome, install it, in the Developer Tools there’s a Network tab, it’s fantastic for diagnosing problems like this.
Much, much better without the buttons.
