I gather the game was meant as a sort of parody of Roaring 20s capitalist shenanigans. But as the story notes, fundamentally, game play centers on forced transactions. I will say that despite its artificial and forced nature, it’s still the best main stream economic/market game out there. If you’re looking for better, then you’ll need to look at niche board games, for example, Rail Baron, Civilization (or the similarly trade oriented Settlers of Catan) or for a recent space-themed game, High Frontier (which has a steep learning curve but looks quite interesting).
