Obama said that unacceptable targeting happened. Maddow says the scandal — the charge that the administration used the IRS to target the Tea Party for political gain — has been discredited. They’re both right.
we learn that the IRS also targeted existing conservative organizations.
So now it’s news that the IRS conducts audits, and that conservative organizations are not exempt? That’s the sound of a “scandal” fizzling.
Why were they targeted for audits? What was the process that lead conservative groups to be disproportionately selected for audits? Who ordered the this new selection process? Why do Democrats not want to let other political parties have the same types of groups they do?
Why were they targeted for audits?
Why is anyone?
What was the process that lead conservative groups to be disproportionately selected for audits?
Where’s the evidence that conservative groups were disproportionately selected for audits?
Why do Democrats not want to let other political parties have the same types of groups they do?
Again, assuming facts not in evidence.
“Why were they targeted for audits?
Why is anyone?”
Really Jim? Do you really think there are no rules for selecting people and groups for audits? For months we have been arguing about how that process was abused for political purposes and now you claim audits just happen because of magic or something?
“Where’s the evidence that conservative groups were disproportionately selected for audits?”
No matter how many times people show you, you just ignore it.
“Why do Democrats not want to let other political parties have the same types of groups they do?
Again, assuming facts not in evidence.”
Except that you have said the TP groups should never have had tax exempt status and deserved what they got. However, there are a multitude of Democrat groups with tax exempt status that engage in the same type of behavior as conservative grouyps target for political persecution.
You want one set of rights for your party and everyone else to be denied those same rights.
How things change. Why I remember when using the IRS to target your political opponents was a term of impeachment during Watergate.
The difference is that there was proof Nixon was using the IRS to target political opponents. Imagining that something happened isn’t the same thing as proving it happened.
“Imagining that something happened ”
The IRS admitted that groups were target for persecution based on political affiliation. That isn’t imagination. Whether Obama ordered it or not, it did happen.
The investigation is to find out who ordered the persecution of political dissidents. So far, all of the Obama administrations claims about where things started and who carried out the attacks have been false.
David French just published some detailed statistics on IRS audits of conservative and progressive groups. Time for someone to get their head out of the sand.

Those “detailed” statistics show that conservative groups were asked an average of 15 questions. That’s it — 15 questions!
I can just picture the meeting in Obama’s secret lair: “We’ll win this election by having 100 Tea Party groups answer 10 extra questions. After answering those 10 extra questions they’ll be too exhausted to write letters to the editor, and that will swing millions of votes our way.”
You’re getting warmer, Jim! By comparison, how many questions were progressive groups asked? By comparison, what percentage of progressive groups were approved?
Jiminator, don’t asks questions to Jim that aren’t covered by his script. It’s downright rude.
Is this like your defense of putting an illegal lien against Christine O’donnel and illegally accessing her private tax history? It doesn’t matter what you think about the people targeted by Democrats and the Obama administration for persecution. The rightness and wrongness of what happened is not determined by how popular people and groups are with Democrats.
We all know that the Democrats and the Obama administration don’t like the Tea Party and other conservative groups and individuals, that is why they were attacked. You cant turn around and say that nothing bad happened because you never liked the victims anyway.
