OK, so what am I missing? Can anyone explain it to me other than the pathetic geeks? (Sorry, the discussion is in comments, though the movie review is about as entertaining as one might expect from DDay).

Hadn’t see this one before: http://i2.listal.com/image/1802560/600full-lea-thompson.jpg
But yeah, I always thought she got cast for BTTF to give the audience the same crawling feeling that Marty McFly had to be feeling when she failed to seduce him.
I think she looks better older.
Nope. I find Lea Thompson interesting mainly because she was in Howard the Duck and it didn’t completely ruin her career. I don’t remember ever thinking that she was more than moderately attractive.
Space Camp? I seem to remember that most people who remembered the movie hated the robot, with good reason. But you pretty much need a magical robot to get a Kids in Space movie if you’re not going the kids-discover-alien-technology route.
Daver,
Actually Pixar also survived it, but under new ownership. BTW it looks like Howard is returning…

Bizarre. I wonder if Disney can handle Howard.
Glad to know I’m not alone in wondering why anyone would find Lea Thompson “hot” (which is an entirely separate issue from whether or not anyone would find her attractive, or want to marry her).
Definitely the dimples.
She makes it to “Cute”. That’s better than many. But she’s no Christina Hendricks.
Some people like dimples…shrug.
Lea Thompson is no Ingrid Bergman, or Grace Kelly, but she looked more than cute in “All The Right Moves” and “Casual Sex?”.
To each his own. One reason I find her hot is she appears real. That, and the sultry voice.
I’m not sure exactly when this happened , but it seems if you want a movie to be a hopeless bomb, it’s a simple matter of inserting Danny Glover and that alone seems to bring down every other quality aspect of the film.
Gee, I would think you would find a Hollywood star that bashed one of President Obama policies attractive…

The issue isn’t whether or not she’s “attractive.” It’s whether or not she’s “hot.” I just don’t see it.
For me, I think it has less to do with BTTF, and more to do with the casting and costume design in Caroline in the City. Not that I followed the show religiously, but as a show of the late ’90s, it shared styling cues with other shows such as NewsRadio (and, to an extent, Just Shoot Me!, Suddenly Susan, and The Nanny), all of which seemed to be bent on making skirts as short as possible to still maintain decency standards.
And, as a budding male during that same time period (late ’90s), I was rather drawn to the looks of the skirts (and legs) of Lea, Amy, Maura, Khandi, and Vicki. (although NewsRadio actually still holds its own many years later)
Seriously… You know that scene in BTTF where she says “I don’t know, but I’m going to find out”, just dripping with animal lust for her, er, son Marty, absolutely curls my toes. Then there’s this which I found while looking for a clip of that (warning: may be NSFW).
Oh. I thought that this might somehow be about her nude scene in the movie “Casual Sex.” Hotness is in the eye of the beholder, of course, but I thought that was hot.
Oh, wait! Someone did bring in the “Casual Sex” nude scene. Thanks, Bart!
Who?
[comment won’t go thru unless I add some unnecessary verbiage. 🙁 ]
Exactly.
[I guess those are the rules . . .]
No.
How did you do that?
