…may seek compensation from the prosecutors.
Go for it. Unfortunately, even if they win, it will be the taxpayers who pay, due to sovereign immunity. They should really seek to have them all disbarred. That’s the only thing that will stop this kind of nonsense.
I think Zimmerman should make the prosecutors (as well as the “community activists” who are now protesting the verdict) the same offer I once made Admiral Gerrib: they lie down on a sidewalk, Zimmerman arms them with a cap-pistol or a paintball gun, then straddles them and starts pounding the backs of their skulls into pavement. Then they get to decide how many poundings it takes before they are justified in pulling the trigger.
When a police department or prosecutor is successfully sued, the settlement should come from their office budget instead of an additional allocation of tax dollars. That way, they’ll actually feel the pain and will be less likely to want to abuse someone’s rights. Lose a few million from your budget and have to cut jobs and perks – that would get their attention.
As for disbarment, by all means. The fact that they withheld evidence from the defense should be grounds for them losing their license to practice law and should be a crime in itself.
Out of the perps’ own personal pockets, with no taxpayer-funded paycheck or expense account reimbursement until the judgment is paid.
Agencies and governments don’t commit rights violations; the people running them do. Sheltering them from having to make restitution personally for their offenses only makes holding power more attractive for malefactors on the outside, and keeping it more imperative for malefactors on the inside — all of which serves to make government more corrupt every time power changes hands. And every time it doesn’t.
It’s what you might call a vicious cycle.
Well, if an agency’s budget takes a hit as a result of a lawsuit, they’ll have to cut personnel. Guess who’ll be first on the chopping block. They may find themselves targets for prosecution by those who survived the job cuts.
Ya, withholding evidence was bad and so has been their behavior after the verdict, calling Zimmerman a murderer and a racist. Waging a war in the media to destroy Zimmerman after they lost in court is uncalled for.
