    1. I was actually thinking “is that all there is?” as I read the list. I was expecting an earth-shattering kaboom, but that was barely a sparkler. I can’t imagine they toned it down just to avoid controversy or challenges, but I can’t come up with any other reason why they didn’t push for much more.

      1. This is why it is more important to observe what Obama actually does instead of being distracted by his noise and kabuki theater.

    2. Well, Obama was stuck between doing things that would be completely useless and doing something things that are both completely useless and unconstitutional.

      He did say that doctors could talk to their patients about guns under HIPA (which only forbids the collection of data). I’ve had some long talks with my own doctor about firearms, and he really prefers belted magnum cartridges for large game, which is why he generally uses a Weatherby. Doctors tend to buy really high-end guns.

      Earlier today I was talking to a policeman in my backyard (he was dropping his wife off at the hospital and parks at my place to avoid the giant parking structure). I mentioned Obama’s laundry list of stupid gun regulations, and he asked if Obama has ever done anything that wasn’t stupid. Then we laughed about the idiocy of New York politicians thinking the three rounds at the bottom of a ten-round magazine are the real threat.

      As I read it, now getting caught with more than seven rounds in the magazine will be an offense in New York, so everybody should always shoot three in the air right before they hand their pistol over for inspection. “Nope. Just seven rounds in this magazine.”

      Of course, you could make a 9mm that holds two single-stack seven-round magazines side-by-side without the grip becoming too wide. New York banned pistol magazines that hold more than seven rounds, but didn’t say how many such magazines a pistol could hold.

      2. But why shouldn’t Obama have voted “present” on a bill to at least charge schoolyard shooters with assault? After all, it’s not the shooter’s fault that he shot up a school, it’s the gun’s fault!

        1. It’s the school’s fault. If the school hadn’t been there the shooter would have just shot up an empty lot.

        1. Next Gerrib will be claiming he didn’t say that an alleged Son of God telling a fictional story about a Samaritan, voluntarily and using his own money, helping the victim of a hold-up, gives the Hive the right to pick our pockets. But he did.

Maybe, just maybe, if Obama and the Democrats were not running around all over the media talking about declaringbthe NRA a terrorist organization, assassinating the NRA president, dragging members of the GOP behind a Chevy, confiscating all guns, and if people would rather die than give them up, let them people would not have been so concerned about Obama’s executive orders.

    FFS every day since Newtown Obama and the Democrats have been dancing on the graves of dead children shouting about how drastic action needed to be taken. The NRA and Republicans are not responsible for the words and actions of Obama and his Democrats.

  4. I can’t imagine they toned it down just to avoid controversy or challenges, but I can’t come up with any other reason why they didn’t push for much more.

    Maybe the audience here should consider that maybe, just maybe, Obama and his liberal-fascist goons were never actually after your guns at all, that no one wanted to take your guns away at any point, and that your fear all along was the result of carefully crafted agit-prop created by the gun lobby to make gullible rubes phone their congressmen, and maybe buy more guns before the “hammer comes down”.

    1. No. I think rather he didn’t have a big enough crisis to make such an assault work. The NRA is pretty effective at what it does and as a result, he probably didn’t have enough support from his own party.

      Why try in the first place? For all the talk, gun ownership isn’t a serious problem. This isn’t the first time Obama has come out with strong anti-gun ownership statements and then pulled back from them. And both his court appointees have favored greatly weakening the Second Amendment.

    2. Except that’s exactly what they are trying to do. If I don’t currently own an AR-15, they would take that right away from me.

      Here’s how stupid banning AR-15’s are. Look at this picture from the AR-15 article on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Stag2wi_.jpg.

      The only part actually considered the “firearm” by law is the part at the very bottom that looks like a pistol. The rest of a “scary” AR-15 is basically just a barrel attached to the front and a shoulder stock attached to the back. That’s it. The actual “firearm” part of an AR-15 is roughly the same size as a handgun.

    3. Obama and the Democrats shouldn’t have been running their mouths about seizing all the guns if they didn’t want people to think that’s what they were going to do. Obama would have loved to do what they did in NY or worse if he could get away with it but when he saw millions of guns being sold it dawned on him that these people would turn out for the midterms.

      Obama is more concerned about retaking the house in the midterms than he is about gun control right now. He knows he can push through what ever he wants later. Have you noticed that Obama is still fund raising and traveling the country doing campaign speeches? Heck he hasn’t even stopped with the over the top rhetoric that everyone who doesn’t support his policies are racist and want children to die and old people to starve.

        I’d love to see some quotes where Obama, or for that matter any prominent Democrat, said “I want to seize all the guns”. The Glenn Beck-sounding voice in your head tells you you’ve heard this, but I suspect you actually didn’t.

        1. How about Cuomo or any number of Representatives and Senators at the federal level and numerous ones at the state and local level.

          There have been calls from Democrats to declare the NRA a terrorist organization and drag Republicans behind a Chevy.

          That entire party is full of violent whack jobs.

        1. As I already mentioned, they want to ban me from being able to buy new ones if I don’t already own one. That is indistinguishable from seizing them.

          Also, there are efforts I have read about that have the end effect of making it impossible to pass guns along to your children through inheritance. So, here they would seize the guns some years from now when I die.

    The answer is that in a free society I don’t have to justify why I need something to anyone. A free society says that I can make decisions for myself without having to ask for permission.

  6. Can we note that the lack of an ATF Director stems from Fast and Furious, which killed far more children than the incident at Sandy Hook?

    Perhaps if Obama had done his job earlier, maybe we would know what happened in Fast and Furious, been able to help the Mexican government recover the weapons the AFT allowed to be illegally shipped there, and punished all those responsible for this heinous crime. Instead, 4 years later, we are supposed to applaud Obama for “doing something” with guidance from his AG, who is still held in comtempt by Congress for failing to explain the government’s role in said crime.

  7. I think the big hubbub leading up to this fizzle just reinforces the notion that Obama wants to talk about anything else other than the economy. Now he just has to go and find another crisis. Maybe he’ll phone Manti T’eo up soon to see how his girlfriend is doing.
