Constitution? We don’t need no stinkin’ Constitution. I won.

Molon Labe, Mr. Obumble, molon labe!
[I still want to know WHO they have earmarked to take the guns….somebody dumb I’m bettin’]
Me too, I want to know who they think is going to go out and enforce such an executive order.
Why not SWAT?
They basically have the military training needed. And the willingness and belief that they’re justified acting upon individuals in the populace. And their hierarchies are … different.
“Joe Shmoe at 1425 is a suspected terrorist and too dangerous for the line cops, so we’re planning a raid.”
Are they going to be -told- “Joe has an extended clip” – no, they’re going to be told “armed, dangerous, suspected terrorist, maybe WMD.” (Which now includes fireworks-levels of explosives.)
And finding “violations” will happen. And be touted as a success story against an evil miscreat.
It would be a completely different thing if the national guard (or whomever) start cordoning off areas and going door-to-door.
But stop thinking -that- would be -first-.
Oh, I’m sure some city will actually try it. But it won’t be long before you see another Mount Carmel type warrant being issued.
And like then, the SWAT team better kill the owner, otherwise they’ll have standing in front of the Supreme Court.
I do agree, it wouldn’t start with the national guard. First, they aren’t that stupid. Second, progressives still herald posse comitatus. Third, most of them are private gun owners themselves.
A real man-portable nuke that was cheap (which don’t exist… currently) would render SWAT teams and the bureaucracy they served obsolete. It would effectively make every individual that possesses it a sovereign king.
What the Davy Crockett recoilless rifle? That was developed in the late 1950s.

Underpants gnomes.
Step 1. Pass an unconstitutional executive order to ban 250 to 300 millions guns, most of which are in unknown locations with unknown owners.
Step 2. ???
Step 3. No more crazy people going postal!
Step 2. Radioactive ammunition.
Daver,
How do you know ammunition is not already being tracked with some secret government technology? ๐
I don’t. ๐ If they made ammunition radioactive enough the bitter clingers would give themselves cancer. It’d be their own fault.
If they made it out of the appropriate fissile material (maybe a Californium isotope) the hoarders would quickly amass a critical mass of ammo and again do themselves in. Does making the price of a bullet exceed the GNP of the country violate the 2nd amendment? Of course, they’d have to change a few laws to allow citizens to own enough radioactive material to build their own atomic bombs, but that’s a small price to pay for disarming the country, isn’t it? So we make lead illegal and radioactive transuranics legal. What could possibly go wrong?
Will freedom lovers need devices like the polonium pen to detect ammo dangerous to keep around?
Mix in with some gun power and no one will ever know…
And remember, this is just the publicly announced technology level…
This is a job for … Joe Biden!
Well, a least you won’t have to worry about the UN taking your guns away…
A good time to urge calm. Does anyone know if Obama’s looking for a nominee for Attorney General, or is he happy with the one that’s there now?
All heil our new Strassefuhrer, Obamao!
The president is playing with fire. I don’t think he realizes just what such an Executive Order would mean.
This is it, folks. This is the point past which I will not go. This is the line I will not cross.
And I’m not the only one.
“It can’t happen here.” But it is happening. We have not seen the end. We will.
The corruption has gone past anything I could have imagined. We are no longer a nation that believes in the rule of law and equal justice. That ship has sailed.
You believe. The nation doesn’t. Otherwise they could never have elected Obama for a second term. That was a wake up call. So… um… wake up!
Read a little history, guys. Hitler never banned weapons. Hitler banned labor unions.
Hitler never banned weapons.
Only because he didn’t have to. He inherited a ban from the Weimar Republic. He certainly didn’t end it.
Hitler banned labor unions.
Yes, and Stalin was such a huge fan of them.
Moron.
Perhaps we should also consider the purpose behind the ban. Hmm, I see claims that the Wiemar Republic ban was a failed attempt to curb the power of the Nazi and Communist parties.
Hitler had indeed gone into politics, and his National Socialists battled the communists in the streets of Germany’s cities and gradually came to be seen by many patriotic Germans in the working class and the middle class as the only force which could save Germany from a communist takeover and total ruin. Hitler’s National Socialists continued to win recruits and gain strength during the 1920s. The communists, with aid from the Soviet Union, also continued to grow. The political situation became increasingly unstable as the government lost popular support.
The government’s response was to substantially tighten up restrictions on the rights of German citizens to keep and bear arms. The Law on Firearms and Ammunition of April 12, 1928, was the most substantial effort in this regard. This law was enacted by a left-center government hostile to the National Socialists (the government was headed by Chancellor Wilhelm Marx and consisted of a coalition of Socialists, including many Jews, and Catholic Centrists).
So the attempt to defuse the situation via gun control laws failed hard. One wonders if say, the Night of the Long Knives would have been as one-side a massacre with an armed populace.
One thing I can’t find is a list of who supported the various gun control laws prior to Hitler’s rise to power. It’s worth noting, for example, that the Nazis weren’t the only group actively working to undermine the Wiemar Republic. The German military and a large portion of the German elite was doing the same with more opportunity to do so. The two German Chancellors prior to Hitler materially contributed to the end of the Wiemar Republic, for example. One ran black ops for the German military (including apparently killing people who knew too much about German violations of the Treaty of Versailles) for at least half a decade in the 20s and the other overthrew the lawful government of Prussia, a state of the Wiemar Republic, one of the more powerful institutional and democratic supporters of the Republic.
It’s worth noting here that the gun control laws in question may well have been supported by enemies of the Republic (just not the Nazis). It’s certainly worth noting that Hitler’s liberalization of gun control law (but only for those who the Nazi party approved of), that everyone likes to cite, didn’t happen until 1938, when Hitler had both solid control of Germany and was facing war. So while the Nazis didn’t pass those laws and supposedly didn’t support them, they certainly did benefit from those laws and never got around to fixing them until they had complete power and a vast war to deal with.

Al, SWAT is not a Federal asset.
