This disconnected: he actually believes (or at least claims to) that the press is biased against him:
…overall, this president still benefits far more than most of his predecessors from a press that generally likes him, agrees with his policies on most key issues, and deeply hopes that he will be re-elected in November. Few incumbents have ever had this kind of support from the Fourth Estate; few challengers have ever had such a hard time getting a break from the media as Governor Romney.
Moreover, some of President Obama’s complaints are unsettling. As he sees it, the liberal narrative is “the truth”, competing narratives are “factually incorrect”, and the press has a duty not to treat truth on an equal basis with falsehood. By this standard, any article that doesn’t heap scorn and disdain on those who disagree with him is biased; “balance” is an illusion when it comes to subjects about which liberals are passionately convinced that they are right.
It just isn’t that simple. Political disagreements are often about values and context—about which facts are important and should move policy rather than about whether side A or side B is right about some specific point. There’s a totalitarian impulse and a deep hostility to the concept of public debate lurking not far below the surface here, and it’s a little unsettling that President Obama seems to think there are a lot of public policy issues on which the liberal viewpoint is True and the conservative viewpoint is Dumb.
As he notes, Leftists are the descendants of the Puritans. It’s just a different religion. And it’s frightening to have a commander-in-chief this deep in delusion.
That’s not the most delusional part.
What’s more delusional is that he continues to believe he has a “messaging” problem. The core of his complaint is that the media has frustrated his ability to communicate with the American people sufficiently to bring them around to his way of thinking. “If only those plebes could hear what I had to say better! They’d be sure to come around then.”
Yes, it’s delusional to think the media is biased against him. At least, it was prior to this year – there’s finally some signs of his support cracking in recent months. But what’s crazier is that he can’t imagine any reason for the American people’s failure to come around to his point of view other than “bad messaging.” The concept that they hear him fine and disagree just doesn’t compute.
It’s more than a bit reminiscent of that old cliche of the “Ugly American” tourist who thinks the non-English-speaking foreigners will understand him if he just yells louder.
I said LONG ago here that I think he’s so insulated that he really believes the parc he spouts. He’s getting fed a bunch of junk as ‘facts’.
But let me say, his policies are socialist, regardless of the feedback he gets from his staff on the status of life outside the WH.
Let’s face it, he never gets asked a tough question. He never gets heckled. He is surrounded with people who want to believe he’s right about everything the WH / DNC does. Where WOULD he bump into the truth? I even think in his heart of hearts he truly believes private industry is absolutely propped by and dependent on the government for it’s very existence.
My wife’s grandmother believed the trips to the moon were all faked. But believing something doesn’t make it so!
Obama’s getting his full on fascist movement going. Now he wants to “bailout” (purchase private stock of a company until the government has the controlling interest) every manufacturing industry in the country. I’d say the mask just came completely off today.
Over my dead body. I’d torch my own factory Ayn Rand-style before I’d let so much as half-percent of my company fall into his greasy hands.
It’s more than just a “little unsettling”. This guy is downright scary in ways that I never imagined we’d see in a US President. If re-elected, it won’t take long for him to go full Argentinian on us. Or Zimbabwean…
His face will be on the trillion dollar bill.
