  1. I am not ready to be President, but I would like to be Energy Secretary.

I think I know things that the president head of DOE (with a Nobel Prize!) didn’t know when he took office.

The world produces about 86 billion barrels of oil per day. Daniel Yergin thought we would be at 100 by now, but maybe it is the bad world economy, maybe there are supply problems. The US once used in the neighborhood of 20, but I am thinking we are down to around 18.6, largely because of the bad economy.

Of the 18.6 million barrels per day, I have seen figures that the U.S. may produce as much a 10, but that takes into account ethanol from corn and something called “natural-gas liquids” — maybe our domestic production is around 7, and if I am appointed Energy Secretary, I will be sure to look up the numbers exact.

Maybe I am not as smart as Secretary Chu, but one thing I know is the the U.S. and the world needs oil, lots of it, and for the forseeable future.
