A kick in the head can make one a savant. There’s hope for me yet…
I had a 55gal drum of oil crack my head open when I was kid… Didn’t do a thing for me. four me. fore me. ta me.
It might have made you an idiot savant — without the savant part.
…how did Edgar Allen Poe anticipate Phineas Gage?
Morbid curiosity.
It is amazing what our potential is.
Just caught the opening of 3rd rock from the sun. Harry get’s hit with a frying pan a few times; each time spouting a new personality. The last one a republican calling for smaller govt. Lithgow hits him in the head one last time saying, “I couldn’t live with that.”
With regard to the Phineas Gage “prophecy”, Poe might have known someone who had a stroke. A dear relative of mine had one, many years ago. She had been a vibrant, fun-loving person before the stroke. And after it, she was fine in every respect but one: she had no emotions whatsoever. She was actually what the character Spock was supposed to be, but never actually realized.
