One thought on “Social Darwinism Versus Laissez Faire”

  1. Heinlein once wrote something about helping a kitten, that we did it for our own self-love, our own view of our self, as much as we do it for the kitten. This would probably be the difference between Laissez Faire and Social Darwinism. Heart and ego. Or super-ego.

Still, I have always held that even if the entire upper class – the one-percenters or whatever – were entirely populated with evil, selfish, self-absorbed people who held the poor with total disdain, they would still be charitable, they would still help out. Why? Self interest. A world full of desperate, hungry people is dangerous for everyone.
