  1. Huh, so this summer we got five dollar gasoline and a lot of closed swimming pools…

Keep it up, Obama, all the way through November! Yes, we can!

  2. I wonder if there is an opportunity to start a business that installs these lifts or if there are already a number of companies that do it? Also curious if any existing companies have gained advantages due to close ties to the Democrat party.

It’s not just about the lawyers but the companies who sweep in and “save” you from them.

    1. $10,000 x 300,000 public pools is $3 billion dollars, so it would be very interesting to see if politicians invested heavily in the niche market. I really doubt the lift companies are geared up for the rapid production required, although most of the lifts seem fairly simple to build. I’d think it will be a mad summer for installation crews, so if you’ve got some sense and a hammer drill for setting concrete anchors (not all lifts require that), it could prove a profitable endeavor.

  3. I’m not sure how well they’ve thought this through. Looking at some lift designs, this one floats up and down like a submarine, using the existing skimmer pumps. But it’s made of metal, submerges, and seems to have pinch points, a magnet for unsupervised kids.

Then we have the four-bar linkage giant table-lamp designs. At the bottom of the page is the DOJ logo and “U.S. Department of Justice – 2010 ADA STANDARDS FOR ACCESSIBLE DESIGN” in huge letters, kind of saying “Buy our product or else.” Being next to the pool, kids are going to use it as a giant swing set and that’s not always going to end well.

Next up, an elevator for the high dive and launch catapult for the high dive.

    1. Yea, I’ve seen one at the 24hour fitness I used to work out at. It had a base plate bolted to the cement, a chair of sorts with a seat belt, and a hand crank with a series of reduction gears to raise and lower the chair into the water. Lots of things to get hung up on and pinch fingers into. And something like that sitting outdoors would need a cover of some kind to protect it when not in use. And recalling that this was next to a hot tube I guess that begs the question: If you had a pool and a hot tube would you need a lift chair for both? I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of apartment complexes and hotels/motels just opt to drain their pools and filling them in with dirt. Then, they can advertise them as “unique beach-like experiences”.

  4. It’s time to start looking for another country in which to live. This one is just broken beyond repair….
