Well as long as we didn’t set a temperature record in US and data sets during that four year period, we must be fine. I’ll outsource the commentary to Murray Gell-Mann:
US and UK data sets, I meant. 2010 was a record in the NASA data set, but not the UK one.
Annan was a bit naive, with 1998 being so far above the trend line the odds were against him, he should have gone for a six year period with the GISS record data.
