I’ve been working on a piece for PJMedia on Mitt Romney’s (non) space policy, and a projection of what will be happening in space in 2012 for Popular Mechanics. Plus, I just got back from the dentist to get a tooth implant.

How does the tooth feel?
Well, there is no “tooth,” just a titanium implant screwed into my jawbone. It’s not really a big deal (nothing like an extraction) because the bone doesn’t have much in the way of nerves. The only discomfort is tenderness on the gum where it was cut open to drill, and then restitched. The lidocaine has worn off now, and it’s not really bothering me. They gave me some heavy-duty Motrin, but I don’t really see the need for it.
I’ve got a badly chipped molar that will probably have to get a similar implant. I wasn’t looking forward to it, but you make it sound pretty painless.
Aside from having aerospace metal in your head, which is cool enough, now you’re living tissue wrapped around a titanium endoskeleton, or at least living gum tissue wrapped around a titanium tooth socket. The paleo diet needs to be updated for cyborg dentition because conventional steaks don’t stand a chance.
The implant isn’t a big deal, but pulling the molar will be. Or at least as much as any extraction. And you’ll be without the tooth until the site can heal enough to do the implant.
My wife is a nurse who used to work for some oral surgeons. They found that taking one Tylenol and one Advil together was more effective at reducing pain and swelling than taking two of either. They seemed to complement each other.
