Thoughts on liberal arts and the higher-education bubble.

Recalling Rand’s recent bloggage on the latter, what is the moral difference between higher education and Scientology – other than the latter’s lack of access to taxpayer funding?
I largely agree with Andrew Barr’s summary, except I’m not sanguine about getting the education establishment to push STEM. The problem is that the overwhelming majority of academics are non-STEM, and they think STEM academics are narcissistic, self-important whiners. They even consider it a victory to force out a STEM professor when they can, either by denying them tenure or by frustrating a tenured STEM prof to the point of departure. So this self-destructive system is not going to change.
