  1. The only GOP candidate running that I could currently vote for is Gary Johnson, but he’s doing very badly in the polls. If you don’t mind my asking, is he the one exception you were thinking of, or is there anyone else worth considering?

  2. My favorite Gingrich quote from the last few days follows. I was surprised by the way “space program” made the cut. I’m not sure it was the most politically savvy issue he could have listed, although it did tap into the “this IS rocket science” sense of heft.

GINGRICH: Yes, that’s because the American news media is passionately committed to gossip and destruction.

MORGAN: Is it unfair, though, to judge a man by his character?

GINGRICH: Let me give you — let me give you an example totally different than Herman Cain. You go back then somebody — some graduate student some day will do this. You go back and take the total volume of time given to Anthony Weiner’s utterly stupid tweets. And then you say to yourself, gee, we could have spent that amount of time talking about Alzheimer’s, we could have spent it talking about energy, we could have spent it talking about why our space program is so totally messed up.

There are dozens of serious, substantive topics, none of which could compete in the American news media with a congressman who’s really just idiotic.

  3. The real question for any of the candidates, is if they understand that commercial crew is the quickest and cheapest way to end the reliance on Russians for access to space.

They will never satisfy the space nerds in a debate about the history human space flight.

    1. Wasn’t Gingrich involved in the L-5 society back when it still had that name? Isn’t he part of the club that includes Rohrabacher and Pournelle? I will vote for him in my primary, but I really hope that if he’s elected he won’t die nobly storming the beaches.
I hope he’s savvy enough to actually get something of his agenda through Congress.

        Beats me.

If he is elected, I hope he can get stuff through congress but it is likely that the R’s will control both houses or close to it, so I hope he doesn’t operate like Obama did.

  4. Newt may have some relatively good ideas on economics, domestic policy, etc. However, I was very much taken aback when he equated atheism and radical Islam as comparable threats to American culture:

    http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/03/28/gingrich-fears-atheist-country-dominated-by-radical-islamists/

His notion of America seems to not include people like me who are non-religious supporters of limited government and free markets. If he doesn’t want me in America, I don’t want him as my President.

An atheist believe there isn’t a god. Or if you prefer, thinks there can not
be a god. An atheist will generally will believe in something- as in that life and the universe occurred without a cause or by chance.

Gingrich says he worried that America in the future will be atheist and muslims. I think that is a silly worry. Atheist and believers in Islam are a small minority. A more realist worry is to fear Mormons- which is as foolish.
It seems more likely that Atheist are dying breed. Muslims also aren’t doing well. It seems to me the future belongs to Christians, as it has for centuries.
In addition, Gingrich never said atheist or muslims were not welcome to live in America, instead it seems to think they are very successful- and Christians are doing poorly.

  6. Newt Gingrich is a failure. He failed when confronting the Left in America during his term as Speaker (“defund the Left”). He failed when Clinton vetoed the budget. If he’s the best candidate,….
