I was heartened to learn that Herman Cain had Mathematics as his undergrad degree. It would be refreshing if we had a president who had a firm grasp on math and the hard sciences, rather than the poli-sci and law educations that most of our career politicians boast of.
The uninspiring examples set by our last two techie Presidents (Hoover, Carter) make me skeptical that this would really help in office. One might suspect that a grounding in the hard sciences or engineering would leave one without sufficient grasp of the ‘softness’ and ambiguity of politics.
On the other hand, I can’t recall a President so woefully ignorant of arithmetic (including the whole million/billion/trillion thing!) as Obama.
