  1. Assuming an average salary of 83,000/year, 1000 employees and a benefits/facilities/ordinary-operating-cost multiplier of 3, the basic operating cost would be about 250 million/year. And this is very generous and assuming $0 of revenue.

That leaves 250 million for other costs over the year between the time they received this money and when they decided to declare bankruptcy. Does anyone know if the operating expenses of a solar company are really that high?

Did they buy a 1/4 billion in equipment: order, ship, receive, test, integrate, system evaluate and decide nope this won’t work let’s shut down… in a year?

What did the business plan look like in 2010?

I have a pretty good idea about how applications for government contracts work. How does one get the government to back a loan? Is it a formal process like procurement? If there is a process was it followed? If there’s a formal application, is it subject to FOIA requests? (It can’t be classified and FOUO is unclassified but release would harm ongoing operations… and the company is shutting down.)

If there were any journalists out there, these are questions that might be worth looking into.

  2. It’s easy Joe.

    (hell, I don’t know)

(I sure hope people quit talking about this soon)

(yeah, I’m running outta goofy shit to say to draw their attention away from this real stuff!)

  3. One thing is absolutely certain… money is cyclic. It goes to some business that gives it to a politician that gives it to a business that gives it to a politician that gives it to a business…

  4. AKH,
soylent, regardless of color, DID provide nourishment according to the flick. The sun shining down your throat just makes you feel warm inside. Hmmm?

Maybe the Democrats just need to go BACK inside, and SHUT their mouths?

  5. The real question that comes to mind is, not only where the money went here, but where the money went with the REST of the stimulus.

  6. I never understood why people could blame President Bush for “Enron” with a straight face.

(I mean, I understood why they wanted to, for political gain, but it was always a bad, stupid joke.)

Almost all of the wrongdoing at Enron happened before President Bush was elected, and he had nothing at all to do with any of it, as far as I can tell.

But, hey, I guess because they got caught after he took the oath of office it was somehow his fault
