Vanity, and Arrogance

So, the socialist scumbag spent time in jail because he thought he was too high and mighty to have to pay a hooker.

While I think the perp walk should be abolished, going as it does against the notion of the presumption of innocence, it’s hard for me to feel sorry for him. I just hope he doesn’t yet become president of France. I fear, though, that this incident may make it more likely, appealing as it does to some aspects of the aristocratic French culture.

[Update a while later]

Here we go:

The almost overnight transformation of D.S.K. — as Dominique Strauss-Kahn is widely known in France — from alleged sexual predator to seeming victim of an unscrupulous accuser has riveted and divided the country. The news that the Sofitel maid who had accused D.S.K. of rape had repeatedly lied to prosecutors has also spurred talk of a political comeback for the one-time French presidential contender that only weeks ago was deemed impossible.

Goody.

Ahh, whose latest version of events is that, the “maids”? Have you considered other possibilities, maybe that he did offer to pay but that she thought she could extort more money from him than he was willing to pay?

  2. Oh, please. Your about his motivation is a little over the top. Men at all strata of society renege on verbal contracts with prostitutes all the time.

By the way, I wonder what the going rate for oral sex at the Sofitel might be? And is oral sex at the Sofitel any better than oral sex at the Motel 6? Talent is talent, regardless of the stage. And when is someone in the media going to get us some pics of the complainant? I could better assess market conditions if I could see the vendor and her wares. Someone with either the Daily Post or the National Enquirer will have photo soon. I hope.

  3. That’s a possibility, too, but it still doesn’t cover him in glory. Prostitution is a crime in NYC (and state), AFAIK, and he wouldn’t be the first John to get caught. Sadly, if what the maid (now) says is true, it’s probably the best case for him, in terms of French public opinion. Men like him aren’t supposed to have to pay for it.

  4. You sully our masters in the Socialist ruling class by placing your bourgeois morals upon them… globalist libs are above it all

Why should DSK be bothered to have to pay for what he thought was limitless, Marie Antoinette privilege- don’t you know who he is?

If we serfs were meant to understand we’d have been told!

  5. The desire to allow the mob to pelt the prisoner, also known as “perp walk” is not unrelated to the tolerance (if not desire for) prison rape as a punishment. Both are both beneath us. Neither should be part of a civilized judicial system.

  6. So Andrew, you’re ok with him hiring a woman for services and then refusing to pay after reception of services? That’s cool with you? Presidential to you?

  7. If he’s going to use a prostitute’s services, he should pay. What sort of man reneges on so petty a contract? Whatever she was charging, I doubt he couldn’t have afforded it. If he was displeased with her technique, the only proper response would be to never hire her again, and perhaps lodge a complaint with her pimp.

I mean, sure, roadgeek, men refuse to pay all the time. I’m not sure what your problem is though — does that make it okay? “Other men do it — why can’t DSK?” It doesn’t work that way.

  8. PS: I agree with abolishing the practice of the “perp walk.” For one thing, it would mean that no longer would I have to read that self-consciously macho phrase “perp walk” any more in something written by a dweeby office-bound journalist who probably uses one of those wooden kitchen “safety” contraptions to slice his bagel instead of a knife.

  9. I wrote questions, Andrew. No where did I claim you said anything. Try reading what Rand wrote, what I wrote, and then try and come back with a better answer. If you can’t handle the questions, then don’t come back.

  10. No,no and no Leland, I’m just surprised that you thought there was something in my comment that would lead you ask me those questions.

  11. I’m somewhat amazed when rich guys have to rely on hookers for sex. Then again, prostitutes are probably cheaper than gold-diggers.

Or are they? There’s an Eliot Spitzer counterargument: the hooker might have lower up-front costs, but if you’re a government official she can cost you your job.

When I read about the price tag on some celebrity divorce settlements, I’m not so sure. Granted that in some career fields, it can cost you your job but that’s a risk some people are willing to take.
